Defining Plagiarism

What is Plagiarism?  According to the Mirriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to plagiarize means

1) to commit literary theft

2) to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

3) to steal or purloin and pass off as off as one's own the ideas, word, artistic production of another; 

4) to use without due credit the ideas, expressions, or productions of another.
