Begun in 2004 as the September 11 Project, the anniversary of the events of September 11th continues to be observed. The original September 11 Project began as a network of libraries across the world that "organize(s) events about freedom and issues that matter to their communities during the month of September. This grassroots project favors free over fee, public over private, and voices over silence."
For the 10th anniversary of 9/11, our library solicitied quotes from members of the college community that affirmed the ideals of peace, freedom, love, hope, wisdon, faith, service, grace, stewardship. The quotes were printed and posted in the Library (four on large banners), as well as posted on the Library's Facebook page. Additionally, the Library used its readers' advisory service, "In My Opinion ...," to highlight some of the new 9/11-related books and documentaries that had recently been added to the collection. Items from the 9/11 collection of a member of the library faculty were placed on display in exhibit cabinets and included books, magazines, graphic novels, and other items, many of which were published directly following the 9/11 attacks. On Friday, September 9, the Library distributed white remembrance ribbons.
