Introduction

This LibGuide has been created as an assignment for a Travel Class at Huntingdon College. Its purpose is to inform and give resources on Aboriginal (Indigenous Australians) Dreamtimes.

Many Aboriginal people refer to the creation time as "The Dreaming." The Dreamtime laid down the patterns of life for the Aboriginal people. Dreaming stories vary throughout Australia, with variations on the same theme. One example is the story of how the birds got their coloring. The story told by the people of New South Wales is different than the one told by the natives of Western Australia. The stories cover many themes and topics, there are stories about creation of sacred places, land, people, animals and plants, law and custom. It is a complex network of knowledge, faith, and practices that derive from stories of creation. It pervades and informs all spiritual and physical aspects of an Aboriginal's life.
