Uncle Tom's Cabin and Popular Culture: Film
This LibGuide has been created to support Dr. Tom Perrin's American Literature course for spring 2012.
A condensation of Aiken's play which combines dramatic scenes performed by actors, still images drawn from contemporary paintings, periodicals, and original illustrations from published editions of the novel, and popular songs and hymns of the mid-nineteenth century. The DVD also includes a vintage 1903 Thomas A. Edison silent film, and a searchable, printable PDF sourcebook with over twenty articles written between the 1850s and 2006, which help to place this work in its theatrical, social, historical and critical contexts.
