Vietnam War Era: Home

This research guide supports the study of the Vietnam War Era, and the 2009 First-Year Experience Course and its primary text, Tim O'Brien's THE THINGS THEY CARRIED.

Welcome

Welcome to the Houghton Memorial Library (Huntingdon College) LibGuide for the Vietnam War Era.  This guide was initially created to support the First-Year Experience course for fall 2009 and its use of Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, the primary text for the course.  This LibGuide, however, can direct you in much broader and deeper research into both the Vietnam War (or Conflict, as it is often called) as well as this broader era in American history – what occurred politically, psychologically, socially, artistically … and the long-term impact of the 1960s and 70s.

We hope you find this LibGuide helpful.

Music and the Vietnam War

Jefferson Airplane originated in San Francisco and debuted in the summer of 1965.  Their most critically-acclaimed album was Surrealistic Pillow which included hit singles “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love.”  The band performed at Woodstock and was featured on the cover of LIFE magazine in 1968.  In 1996, Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
